Medical malpractice: Man misdiagnosed with cancer

There is an expected amount of trust in the New Jersey medical community when it comes to lab results. When an individual is given results that call for an aggressive level of treatment, it is expected that the results are accurate without error. Medical malpractice is disheartening and weakens the trust within the system that patients establish with medical professionals.

A man from St. Louis was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a routine annual checkup. The man was about to start a new career opportunity and decided to undergo a rigorous treatment plan where the cancerous glands were to be removed through surgery. The patient scheduled and proceeded to have the surgery swiftly with the mentality that he must stop the cancer from spreading any further.

After the initial operation, the patient was notified that he was misdiagnosed. At first, he was told that he was either healed through a miracle or that the lab results he was given were mistakenly given to him. The patient did not have cancer at all, but he was subjected to an intrusive treatment that was completely unnecessary. These types of medical errors are rare and happen to less than 1 percent of patients. When it happens, it is detrimental to the patient who was subjected to such a medical atrocity.

Patients in New Jersey who are victims of medical malpractice may want to consult experienced legal counsel to pursue compensation for their injustice. A successful claim where damages are awarded as a result of unnecessary medical procedures can help cover many of the expenses that a patient incurred. Restitution may not undue all of the severe distress associated with this predicament, but it can help to ease some of the pain and suffering endured.
