New Jersey motor vehicle accidents: Pedestrian killed, 1 injured

It is almost astounding to think of the number of distractions that a driver faces. Passengers, smartphones and other electronics can easily pull a driver's attention from the roadway. Unfortunately, even a single moment of inattention can result in serious motor vehicle accidents. Police in New Jersey are currently investigating a recent crash that involved two pedestrians.

The incident happened at approximately 6:30 a.m. on a day in early December. According to reports, the two victims, a 44-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, were attempting to cross the street at an intersection. While doing so, police say they were struck by a sedan driven by a 35-year-old man.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the woman later passed away as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The male pedestrian reportedly suffered serious injuries and is currently listed in critical condition. The driver was not injured. While no criminal charges have been filed at this time, the incident remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Unfortunately, the ramifications of motor vehicle accidents are often extensive. While a family is left mourning the unexpected death of a family member, another man is left recovering from serious injuries. While doing so, he may require extensive treatment that could quickly create serious financial complications. In order to cope with these expenses, many people in New Jersey who are victims of another's negligence  (including surviving families of deceased victims), choose to consult with a personal injury attorney who can help them understand their legal options, including whether to file a civil lawsuit.
