Wrongful death lawsuit could follow fatal New Jersey accident

There are a variety of different ways to legally use New Jersey roadways. As a result, motorists must be aware of pedestrians and others who may be on the roads. Unfortunately, police say that two pedestrians were recently killed after being struck while attempting to cross the street. Surviving family members of the two victims could choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

The fatal incident happened one evening on a day in early April. According to reports, the two male victims, members of a local political party who were meeting to prepare for the upcoming primaries, were attempting to cross the street when they were struck by a vehicle. Reports claim that the driver of the vehicle left the scene.

Unfortunately, the two men ultimately passed away from injuries suffered in the collision. Reports indicate that the man police believe was driving the vehicle was taken into custody at approximately 4 a.m. the next morning. A man who owns a business in the area claims that the area is known to be dangerous to pedestrians because of drivers who fail to stop when the light turns red.

Now the families and New Jersey communities of the deceased victims are mourning their tragic and unexpected loss. Surviving family members are left to plan a funeral. While criminal charges have been filed against the driver that police believe caused the fatal accident, surviving family members also have the option of seeking justice by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. In addition to ensuring that drivers are held accountable for negligent actions, a successfully presented civil suit could also result in an award of damages that will help family members cope with the financial ramifications of their loss.
