Motor vehicle accidents: New Jersey teen suffers injuries

School buses in the United States are equipped with safety features meant to ensure that they are properly visible. Despite these efforts, motor vehicle accidents continue to occur due to distracted drivers. Unfortunately, a teenager in New Jersey recently suffered severe injuries after she was struck while attempting to board a bus.

According to reports, the bus was stopped in the northbound lanes of a New Jersey roadway at approximately 7:15 a.m. one morning on a day in early January. Police claim that the bus had both its stop sign and red light activated. Unfortunately, the driver of a southbound vehicle failed to stop, striking the 14-year-old as she crossed the street to board the bus.

The teenager suffered severe injuries in the collision and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Neither the juvenile driver of the car that apparently struck the victim or a passenger suffered injuries. It is unclear if charges are expected to be charged as a result of the accident; however, the investigation into the incident is likely ongoing.

While the physical ramifications of motor vehicle accidents are obvious, some people may be unaware of the financial struggles that victims and their families may face. Medical bills can easily become overwhelming. In this case, the victim's parents may be forced to miss work while she recovers, resulting in lost wages. In order to cope with these expenses, those who were injured due to another person's negligence have the option of seeking recompense in a civil court. An attorney in New Jersey can help identify all responsible parties to help ensure each are held accountable for his or her involvement.
