Truck accidents can take an inordinate amount of time to clear

In the aftermath of nearly every accident here in New Jersey or elsewhere, there is at least some investigation and/or cleanup that has to occur before traffic can resume its normal flow. Truck accidents can take an inordinate amount of time to clear due to the size of the vehicles involved. The facts that the injuries are often more severe, a lot of debris can be present and the trucks could be jack-knifed or turned over increases the amount of time it takes to get the area back to normal.

Investigators and other New Jersey officials had "quite a mess" on their hands at an accident that occurred on a recent Friday morning at around 7 a.m. on Route 78. Preliminary reports indicate that a tractor-trailer slammed into the back of a minivan in the eastbound lanes of the highway. During the impact, the 18-wheeler flipped onto its side.

The woman driving the minivan was ejected during the crash. Fortunately, her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening despite the fact that one witness said that her minivan was the size of a smart car. Nearly three hours after the accident, only one lane had been reopened.

Even though the scene was eventually cleared, and everyone went about their lives, that does not mean that the 26-year-old woman who was driving the minivan is able to get back to her life as easily. Depending on her injuries, her recovery could take some time. During that time, she could be losing income and incurring medical expenses. If she establishes that the truck driver was negligent in a personal injury claim, the driver and others could be held liable for damages she sustained -- and could be sustaining -- that are most likely similar to those in other truck accidents.
