New Jersey consumers need to keep aware of dangerous products

Like many other consumers around the country, New Jersey residents are growing more particular about the food they eat for many reasons, including their health. Therefore, when dangerous products make their way into grocery stores, consumers need to know as quickly as possible. Good Seed Inc., which distributes soybean and mung bean sprouts, has been part of three recalls so far this year for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

People who have compromised immune systems could contract a deadly infection from Listeria. Healthy individuals could still become seriously ill and suffer from a number of symptoms such as gastrointestinal issues, severe headache and a high fever. Pregnant women infected by Listeria can suffer miscarriages or stillbirths.

Due to the serious health issues that can result from a Listeria infection, consumers who purchase the company's bean sprouts are advised to stop using them. They can be returned to the store from which they were purchased for a refund. Questions regarding whether a product purchased by a consumer is part of the recall can be directed to the company -- which is based in Virginia -- or the Food Safety Program of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

According to the company, no reports have been received regarding health issues. If a New Jersey resident who uses one of these potentially dangerous products suffers a serious adverse health condition or dies, a products liability claim may be appropriate. Any damages awarded as the result of a successfully litigated claim could help defray any current or future financial losses.
