Wreckage can make it difficult to free victims of car accidents

What happens to a vehicle during an accident is unpredictable. In some car accidents, the wreckage itself makes it difficult to extricate the victims, but the position of the vehicle can also complicate matters. This can make it a challenge for emergency responders in New Jersey to get to the victims in order to provide life-saving medical care.

For example, when emergency responders were recently called to the scene of an accident, they discovered the vehicle involved literally came to rest in some trees. Due to the location and condition of the wrecked car, authorities were forced to use the Jaws of Life in order to remove the two occupants of the vehicle. By the time the two occupants were removed, the driver had succumbed to fatal injuries. The passenger, however, was alive and flown to an area hospital with injuries described as moderate. His current condition is not known.

Police say the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. It then careened off the road and flew into the tree where it became lodged. Authorities with the Egg Harbor Township Police Department conducted an on-scene investigation for approximately three hours. It is not yet known if officials know why the driver lost control of the car.

Depending on the nature of his injuries, the passenger could be facing an extensive recovery. During that time, he will incur medical bills that could quickly become a heavy financial burden. He could sustain other damages as well, including the loss of income. In an effort to seek restitution for these and other financial losses, the victim may file a personal injury claim against the estate of the driver. If negligence is proved to the satisfaction of a New Jersey court, he may be awarded damages to help with the monetary losses often seen in serious car accidents.
