Factors involved in some car accidents are not readily identified

In some cases, New Jersey law enforcement officials have a difficult time discerning how an accident occurred. This is often because the factors involved in some car accidents are not readily identifiable based on where the vehicles came to rest. Additional investigation and even an accident reconstruction may be necessary in order to ascertain the cause of the crash.

For example, troopers with the New Jersey State Police recently responded to a call regarding a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 295. Upon arrival, they found two people, both 22 years of age, succumbed to fatal injuries in a car occupied by three people. The third person, who was in the backseat, survived the crash. It was reported that the 23-year-old woman was released from the hospital.

The two men in the other vehicle, a 22-year-old and a 19-year-old, suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Their current conditions are not known. Not much is known about the accident, either. Apparently, the car occupied by the two men slammed into the other car. No charges have been filed in connection with the wreck, pending the completion of the investigation into its cause.

Knowing what caused the accident is not only necessary for the filing of any criminal charges. Understanding the factors that led to the accident could be helpful in establishing negligence in any wrongful death claims filed by the families of the two deceased victims. Proving negligence to the satisfaction of a New Jersey court could lead to an award of damages typically seen in cases involving fatal car accidents.
