Residents say car accidents occur often at same intersection

Authorities in New Jersey are still attempting to discover the cause of a recent accident. Residents in the area say that car accidents occur at the same intersection often, which lies at the base of a hill. Cars reportedly travel at unsafe speeds by the time they reach the bottom of the hill.

It could be some time before authorities know whether the residents' complaints about the intersection had anything to do with this crash. Four people occupied the vehicle involved. When emergency responders arrived, they had to extricate the crash victims from the vehicle. Two of the occupants died from their injuries.

Emergency medical personnel transported the other two individuals to an area hospital for treatment. Other than the fact that their injuries were serious, no further information is known concerning them. While the two surviving victims recover from their injuries, authorities continue their investigation. As part of that investigation, weather conditions that may have caused slippery roads are being considered as a contributing factor in the accident.

No information was provided regarding who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. That determination will likely need to be made before any wrongful death or personal injury claims can be filed. Any civil actions filed in connection with the crash must be based upon evidence of negligence on the part of another party to the collision. While those lawsuits are typically made against a driver deemed to have been at fault, appropriate governmental agencies are sometimes included as defendants when evidence exists that a dangerous road condition was not properly corrected. Under New Jersey law, numerous types of damages are typically sought with respect to serious car accidents such as medical costs, lost wages and -- in the event of a fatality -- funeral and burial costs.
