New Jersey car accidents involving pedestrians can be fatal

Cars and trucks are not the only vehicles on the road. Motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians all have the right to the same roadways. Looking out for other vehicles and obstacles -- such as pedestrians -- is every driver's responsibility. Conversely, it is the responsibility of pedestrians, bicycle and motorcycle riders to do the same. When drivers, riders or pedestrians become distracted on the streets, serious or deadly car accidents often result.

A temporary resident of the United States was living in Jersey City, New Jersey. According to the Hudson County Sheriff's Office, the 30-year-old woman had just left the office after her last day of work as a secretary and was riding her bicycle home. At some point between 6:37 p.m. and 6:46 p.m., an unknown vehicle on Route 9 struck her.

A Hudson County Sheriff's prisoner transport driver discovered the body of the deceased hit-and-run victim. She was lying on the curb with her bicycle found nearby in the snow. The victim was due to leave the United States and reunite with her husband back in Japan next week. The couple had only been married for one month prior to her coming to America to work for a year.

New Jersey Police have few leads regarding the death of the victim. There are no suspects as of yet, but officers are investigating two vehicles of interest that may have been involved in the death of the woman. Unfortunately, her husband may have to grieve for his new wife from afar. He does retain the right to file a wrongful death claim against the individual responsible for the death of his wife when he or she is finally apprehended. However, as is the case in other hit-and-run car accidents, it could be some time before the identity of the driver is discovered.
