Treatment mistakes: Patient claims for serious injuries sustained

Many people reach a stage in their lives where they have to make a decision to admit an elderly loved one to a facility where constant care is available. When this decision is made, it is done with the understanding that the loved one will be well cared for and safe. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. New Jersey residents may be interested to know about treatment mistakes that happened in a neighboring state recently.

A healthcare facility is being sued by a woman who suffered serious injuries while in the care of the facility. While staff of the nursing home assisted her to go to the restroom, she was dropped. The woman alleged that the staff were negligent and violated the standard of patient care and were responsible for the serious injuries she suffered. The victim is claiming an undisclosed amount of money in punitive and compensatory damages.

The responsibility of a nursing home is to care for their patients with utmost care and ensure their safety, yet the abuse of patients in care facilities is very common. These types of lawsuits and claims arise when patients are injured by intentional or negligent acts of hospital personnel or other healthcare providers, which may include a nurse, doctor or therapist. The consequences of such injuries can be devastating, both financially and in terms of one's lifestyle.

New Jersey residents who have a loved one in a care facility may want to monitor the treatment and care of that person. Injuries resulting from treatment mistakes can turn out to be serious and costly. In cases of loved ones who suffered injuries or even death as a result of the negligence of medical personnel, the option remains to file a claim of personal injury or wrongful death in a New Jersey court. If the case is successfully litigated, compensation may be awarded to cover at least some of the costs incurred as a result of the incident.
