2-car accidents can easily involve other vehicles

When cars collide on New Jersey highways, city streets or in residential areas, there is always the potential of collateral damage. The results of an impact are unpredictable, and when out-of-control vehicles are propelled across a roadway, they can slam into other vehicles. Car accidents that might have caused isolated injuries to those involved in the initial crashes end up affecting the lives of passing motorists and their passengers.

What began as a two car accident on a recent Monday afternoon ultimately involved three vehicles. Two southbound cars were apparently nearly side-by-side as they crossed over Route 22. A third vehicle was heading west on Route 22 when it crashed into one of the southbound cars.

The impact shoved that vehicle into the second car. The 66-year-old woman in the first car that was struck was trapped in the wreckage of her vehicle. Once she was freed from her vehicle, she was transported by a police medevac to an area hospital. The other two drivers, the 66-year-old man driving the westbound vehicle and the 57-year-old man driving the third car, also suffered serious injuries and were taken to New Jersey hospitals.

As the victims of this crash recover from their injuries, they are undoubtedly incurring expenses related to their medical care. Once it is determined which driver is believed to have been at fault, the victims retain the right to file personal injury claims. If they are able to establish negligence, the court may award them damages similar to those often ordered in car accidents. Any restitution received could help defray the costs already incurred and that may be incurred in the future.
