The cause of some car accidents is not always readily available

In the first hours after a crash, police here in New Jersey and around the country attempt to ascertain its cause. Sometimes, the causes of car accidents are not that easily discernible. Even if officers at the scene have a theory, they may not yet have the evidence or witness statements to back it up, so they refrain from espousing any theories until they know more.

It is unclear from the report whether police are still uncertain regarding the cause of a recent head-on collision or whether they do not have the evidence needed to back up any theories they may have. Preliminary reports indicate that two vehicles were heading in opposite directions just prior to 12:40 p.m. on a Monday. At some point, the two vehicles collided.

The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles. In fact, the wreckage was mangled to a point where emergency personnel were forced to extricate one person from it. One of the three injured in the crash was taken to an area hospital by helicopter. The current conditions of those who suffered injuries in the accident were not available at the time of this writing.

Until it becomes clear which driver is believed to be responsible for the crash, it may be beneficial for the parties to take the time to understand their rights and responsibilities as they pertain to car accidents. One of the injured was a passenger, so that individual may proceed with a personal injury claim against one or both drivers regardless of the outcome of the investigation. Successfully establishing that his or her injuries were due to the negligence of another could result in a New Jersey court entering an award of damages in the passenger's favor.
