Did driver's negligence lead to the death of another driver?

New Jersey has seen its share of inclement weather this winter. Snow storms blanketed the state and its roadways, which caused travel to become treacherous at times. Officials urged residents on more than one occasion to stay off the roads if possible and, if not, to take extra precautions. Under these circumstances, an accident could easily be caused by a driver's negligence.

During a recent snow storm, police and other emergency responders were called to the scene of an accident on New Jersey 28 in the central part of the state. Preliminary reports regarding the incident indicate that a pickup truck was traveling west when its driver lost control. Another driver had the misfortune of being in the eastbound lane when that happened.

The two vehicles collided. The force of the impact was enough to cause fatal injuries to the driver of the eastbound vehicle. That stretch of New Jersey 28 was closed for around three hours while the preliminary investigation was conducted and the wreckage was cleared. As part of the investigation into the crash being conducted by the CART Team with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and the Raritan Borough Police Department, anyone with information about the crash is being asked to come forward.

The family members of the deceased driver do not need to wait for further information in order to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the pickup truck. If they show that their loved one died due to the negligence of that driver, the court may consider awarding them damages. Those damages will not bring back the family member they lost, but it may help with the financial impact her unexpected death caused.
